Eagle Days

Eagle Days is a new program where students get to select 2 electives to immerse themselves in for one week.  Registration is now open.  Please sign your child up for 1 morning class and 1 afternoon class.  Enrollment in each class is limited.  Be sure to enter your student's name (not your name). CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

(Open to grades 1-6, unless noted otherwise.)

MORNING session options (8:45am – 10:15am)

Roller Coaster ManiaIn this class, students will work in groups to design and build their own roller coaster models, exploring fundamental physics concepts like gravity and energy while fostering creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Through hands-on construction, testing, and presentations, students will practice engineering principles and enjoy the excitement of their own unique roller coaster designs.

Printing with Nature - Nature Inspired Art Do you think Nature is Art? Are you inspired by natural objects? Do you love finding treasures in nature? We will create artful nature prints, exploring various printmaking, clay, and painting techniques. We’ll think about the deeper connection of our relationship with the natural world while working with and exploring the properties of natural materials. Our finished nature prints will become a beautiful handmade book to use for sketching, nature journaling, and dreaming …

 

Badminton - The next ultimate Sport!! Players will develop the skills required to take their game to the next level. Learn badminton-specific footwork and strokework fundamentals and have fun playing matches with friends.

The Oak News – It's time for another issue of everybody’s favorite school newspaper, The Oak! “By kids, for kids.” Students will determine what stories need to be told, write them up, and organize the layout. Sections include Sports, Field Trips, Community engagement, Faculty Profiles, Schoolwide Events, Holidays, Virtues & Values, Games, Puzzles, and more! Scrapbooking - In this creative activity, students will express their personal narratives by crafting scrapbooks that illustrate moments in their lives. They will reflect on meaningful experiences. gather various materials such as photographs and decorative items. As they arrange their scrapbook pages, students will write captions and short narratives that convey their emotions and insights.

Ballet - Leap, twirl, and whirl into beginning ballet! Ballet helps young children develop and improve their balance, coordination, and self-esteem. The creative movement aspect of this class will encourage children to use their imaginations and help nurture self-expression in a fun and natural way. While the importance of ballet technique and theory will be taught, this class will also highlight the joyfulness and playfulness that dancing creates.

Totally Totes! - Graphic and fabric design applied to tote bags. Students will learn how to use graphic design software and tools (Cricut, iron-on vinyl, heat press) to create a personalized tote bag.

Groovy and Goofy Gameshow! – Los Encinos Jeopardy! In this exciting game show extravaganza, students will showcase their knowledge of Los Encinos, literature, and library resources. Over four days, they will explore various cross-grade-level topics related to LES and answer questions using their research skills. After several rounds, the fun continues as participants get creative by designing their own version of the game, inviting friends and classmates to join in and put their knowledge to the test!

Outdoor Cooking and Food Preservation – Students will learn basic outdoor cooking skills, food safety, and food preservation methods, including dehydration, pickling, and freezing.

Sketching Comedy – Do you love to make people laugh? In this class, we’ll write and perform our own comedy skits. We’ll study what makes a joke funny and the structure of a sketch. At the end of the week, we’ll put on a comedy show for your families!

Let's bake MAKE a cake! - In this class, we will be learning a style of art called Decoden. This art style originated in Japan at the turn of the century where the artist decorates everyday objects. It uses a silicone-based glue, that is in a piping bag, and we will learn different frosting techniques to create a variety of unique crafts. Once frosted, we will add an assortment of embellishments like beads, charms, and rhinestones. In this class, we will be making 3D objects and sculptures that are both decorative and functional. Starting with a cake jewelry box, we will also be making frames, and hair clips/headbands. We will decorate a real cake on the last day!

Endangered Animals - We'll learn about common and uncommon endangered animals, including rhinos, orangutans, leopards, the saola (often called the "Asian unicorn"), and more! Where do they live, why are they endangered, and how can we help?

AFTERNOON session options (1:00pm – 2:30pm)

Paper Batik Making - In this workshop students will learn about Batik, (A wax resist dyeing technique that creates intricate patterns on fabric) and will create our own version using paper, paint, and India ink. We will look at the artist Georgia O’Keefe as our inspiration and will have the opportunity to create a batik painting as well as a set of painted and collaged greeting cards.

Deep Thinkers' Club - Little Philosophers - Kids will explore some of life’s biggest questions—What makes you you? How do we know what’s right and wrong? What is happiness? Through discussions, thought experiments, and engaging activities, students will develop critical thinking skills and learn how to express their ideas clearly. This course encourages curiosity, reflection, and deeper thinking about the world around us. Grades 3rd-6th

Building Habitats - This course will explore how ecosystems function and how humans can design and build sustainable habitats. Students will learn about ecological balance by constructing their own self-sustaining terrariums. The class will also contribute to a real-world project: designing and building a larger, more natural habitat for our science lab turtle.

Movement, Mindfulness and Fun - Through Yoga! - This 4-day yoga enrichment program combines movement, mindfulness, and imaginative play to build strength, balance, and focus. Through themed yoga adventures, partner activities, and fun relaxation exercises, kids will develop confidence, teamwork, and self-awareness in an engaging way. No prior experience is needed—just a curious mind and a willingness to explore!

Hip Hop Dance - In this high-energy, age-appropriate class, kids will learn fun hip-hop techniques and combinations. This class will allow hip-hoppers to have fun dancing to a variety of funky hip-hop beats as they begin to develop their coordination, musicality, body awareness, and overall performance. We will create a fun environment by using creative games, props, and engaging activities. All music is kid-appropriate.

Recess Games from Around the World - Students will learn about and play different recess games that are played by students from different countries around the world.


Pass the Plate - Love food and art? In this class, students will learn about popular dishes from different countries around the world. They will then recreate a miniature version of their favorite dish using model magic clay.

Vacation to the Island of Hawaii - Aloha! Learn about the culture of Hawai’i with fun activities, including dancing, arts and crafts, and cooking.

Board Games - In this class, students will dive into the exciting world of game design and board games, where they’ll learn to design and create their own board games from scratch. Students design, create, and play their own board games. Students will come up with game rules, artwork, and pieces while engaging in problem-solving, creativity, teamwork, and basic design thinking.

FairyTales in the Garden - Welcome to Fairies in the Garden, an enchanting class where magic meets nature! In this imaginative course, students will dive into the mystical world of fairies and enchanted gardens. Through storytelling, nature exploration, and hands-on activities, they will learn about the timeless tradition of fairy tales while creating their very own miniature fairy gardens.

Commercial Audition Workshop – Future actors will learn the basics of auditioning for commercials. They will practice simple scripts, receive tips on following audition directions, and build confidence in front of the camera. They will also gain a foundational understanding of the audition process and how to present themselves professionally. Grades 2nd - 6th
